Beginning Aug 1, 2025 the opt-in RAVE weather alerts texts will no longer be available for Crawford County, MO and Cuba, MO.
FEMA Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) for Weather, Amber Alerts, etc. will still be received normally, which are different from SMS text alerts.
RAVE has been a paid service funded by Crawford County 911, and with the availability of public free weather alert mobile apps, we will no longer be utilizing RAVE.
This was an opt-in service for the public to receive additional weather alerts by text for Crawford County, MO and Cuba, MO. If you have never opted-in to request these texts, and have not been receiving these text messages already, then nothing will change for your service.
FEMA Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) will continue to provide alerts to mobile devices for the most extreme or imminent weather events, such as Tornado Watch, Tornado Warning, etc. These will continue to show up on your mobile device in the same manner as Amber Alerts. The RAVE opt-in SMS texts provided an alternate method to receive the most critical weather alerts listed above, as well as additional “all hazards” alerts for Flash Flooding, Fog Alerts, and many others.
While the FEMA mobile app is an official US government method to receive all weather alerts in the future that were previously provided by RAVE, there are many public and private weather alert mobile app options to choose from, such as: “Emergency: Severe Weather App” by American Red Cross, The Weather Channel, FEMA, Weatherbug, iAlert, Storm Shield, etc. These can be found on your mobile device app store.
If you choose to use a mobile app moving forward, keep in mind that many of the private (non-government) mobile apps are free, however some also offer paid services or in-app purchases, so choose at your own discretion based on their terms of service and privacy agreement. Our agency cannot specifically endorse any private or non-governmental mobile app that we are not partnering with directly.
